Ron Branson was born and raised in and around Greensboro, North Carolina. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving tours in Texas, California, Vietnam, and Maryland. While in the Air Force, Ron met and married Cindy, and they have three grown children, and ten grandchildren.
After his military tour, Ron had a number of communications/computer related jobs, including the American Red Cross, the Greensboro Daily News & Record, Burlington Industries, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida, Burlington Industries again, First Tennessee Bank of Memphis, Lomas Mortgage. He retired in 2005 as a Vice President with MBNA Information Technology. During these employment stints, he went to school part time, obtaining his B.S. in Business Administration and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and his MBA in Information Technology Management from the University of Dallas.
Ron and his family moved to Carrollton in 1982, and he was elected to the Carrollton City Council in 2002 and 2005. Ron made the decision to resign from Council in 2006 due to health reasons, and was blessed with a heart transplant on January 2, 2007.
In 2008, it was widely accepted that our City needed new leadership. Several council members considered challenging the incumbent, but the joint decision was that Ron was the best choice. Their trust was rewarded as our Citizens rallied around Ron and honored him with the position of Mayor of the City of Carrollton.
Ron is and always has been very active in the community. Besides being a youth sports coach and serving a plethora of board positions with the CFB Girls Softball League, he has also served a number of positions within his church, which is Aldersgate United Methodist on Old Denton Road. Positions held include Finance Committee member and chair, Treasurer, and SPR committee member and chair. You can also see him usher for most of the early Sunday services.
Ron is active with the school districts, with emphasis on districts with an "s". Besides attending many of the sporting events, school plays, veterans events, and occasional speaker for awards and recognition ceremonies, he is also a member of the CFBISD District Improvement Council and the Hebron High School Building Leadership Team. Both of these committees study and develop recommendations for improving student performance and enhancements to the educational process.
